O.P.I.A Romania recently registered as a member of ASD Europe (The AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe)

O.P.I.A Romania has joined ASD Europe, a partnership that represents an important step for the Defence Industry Employers Organisation and for our members because such an association supports the interests of the Defence Industry in Romania. ASD provides a valuable perspective and source of information for our community as it represents the aerospace and defence industry in Europe.

The organization was formed in 2004 through the merger of the Association of European Space Industry (Eurospace), European Association of Aerospace Industries (AECMA) and European Defence Industries Group (EDIG).

The AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe is an organization comprising 28 member associations from 20 European countries. The organisation represents over 2,000 companies and 80,000 suppliers, many of which are SMEs. These industrial sectors employ around 638,000 people, with a turnover of over €170 billion.

ASD’s main mission is to accelerate and help the development of Europe’s aeronautics, space and defense industry. In particular, the organization serves as a lobby group and political advocate for industry within the European Union establishment, in particular the European Defence Agency, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, as well as the the European Union Agency for the Space Programme. In addition, the organization is responsible for maintaining the ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English (STE) standards for aerospace technical documentation.

Undertaking partnerships of interest to the OPIA and the Romanian defense industry

OPIA Romania became a ASD member from December 2022, the agreement being signed after attending one of the most important annual events organized by ASD Europe. During the event held in Brussels, The AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) published an overview of the state of the industry and its value in 2021. The Association issued two reports: the first an annual publication on the main issues and statistics relating to its member companies, and the second an analysis of the companies’ economic and social impact. All this information was of real interest to OPIA team members, marking the beginning of a mutually beneficial collaboration.
